The historic Kentucky Theater located in Lexington, KY was first opened in 1922. To this day, it’s one of the few remaining movie palaces within the United States.

In keeping with the theater’s age and old-fashioned sensibilities, each summer the Kentucky Theater hosts a Summer Classics Series that shows a different classic film each Wednesday throughout the summer.

Residents and staff from Mayfair Manor and Signature HealthCARE of Georgetown enjoyed a leisurely day at the Kentucky Theater where we listened to organ music played by Dr. John Landon before our movie began.

Dr. Landon is a retired UK professor of social work, a retired church organist, Hall of Fame recipient and volunteer extraordinaire at Mayfair Manor. So the residents from Mayfair Manor were able to get a double dose of his beautiful music.

The classic movie that was showed yesterday was Charade, featuring Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Walter Matthau. It was an entertaining, suspenseful movie with a touch of romance. The funny part was listening to our ladies swoon over Cary Grant. It was a fun little stroll down memory lane.

Thanks to all that participated in this Staycation Fun!

I’ll begin our continuing coverage of our Staycations by using the words of a wise man, ”A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz.” – Humphrey Bogart.

Residents and staff from Bluegrass Care and Rehabilitation, Signature HealthCARE of Georgetown, and Mayfair Manor probably agree as well! We all shared a fun day at the ballpark watching the minor league team, the Lexington Legends, play against the Lakewood Blueclaws.

The team even pulled out a win in the very last inning! What a nail biter! The crew enjoyed eating hot dogs and other junk food while enjoying the beautiful weather. The mascot “Big L” even paid us a special visit to our suites! He posed with the staff and residents, and left lasting impressions on us all.

Apparently our crowd was a talkative bunch because we missed our “Signature Healthcare Shout Out,” but we made up for it when one of our stakeholders won pizza for being the best dancers in the crowd.

There’s nothing like socializing in the sunshine, eating hot dogs, and watching America’s Favorite Past Time! Thanks to all who participated!

- Ashley Graham, Regional Quality Life Director

There was much dancing, singing, Piñata hitting, and lots of fun! We even had a visit from Georgie the pig!

The residents and staff from Bluegrass Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mayfair Manor, and Signature Healthcare of Georgetown enjoyed an exciting day at Keeneland. Keeneland is a national historic landmark that specializes in Thoroughbred racing.

The Spring Meet began April 3rd and will continue until April 24th. The residents and staff enjoyed picking the winners of the races and cheering each other on! The atmosphere was wonderful and the grounds were beautiful!

There were a few winners within this group, however, nobody struck it big. Everybody shared their “winning strategies”. Some chose the gray horse, some chose by the stats, some have a lucky number that they choose, and some chose a horse because they liked the name.

Our group’s biggest winner stuck with number 6. Our group had a lucky day and can’t wait to go back again!
